Types of Birth Certificate
There are classes of birth certificate such as the one that you can apply for online, and the other one which you have to file in person. If you are in requirements for the following types, it could be easily registered online.
- Standard birth certificate
- Commemorative birth certificate
These application forms are for a birth that occurred in, or was registered in NSW. If you are the person named on the certificate, or a parent of the person named on the certificate, the birth certificate can be issued to you.
However, if you do not meet the criteria above, you must provide three types of your own ID. For Commemorative birth certificates Identification, you are required to provide at least three types of ID, one of each from categories 1, 2 and 3.
If you are unable to provide ID from categories 1 and 2, you must still provide at least three types of ID. At least two of these must be from category 3. All documents except foreign passports must be current.
You have rights to privacy when you apply. By sending this ID, you consent to the release of information provided to those agencies who may be able to validate it. It is strongly advised to read your right to privacy policy beforehand.
If you don’t have the above criteria, you must provide a Letter of Authority giving permission to apply.
Another function of a commemorative birth certificate is to capture the joy of a new birth, or celebrate a birth from many years ago. All commemorative birth certificates commonly come in a popular framing size (279 mm x 355 mm), but you can still select the size of your own.
Keep in mind that commemorative certificates do not contain security features and organisations may not accept them as proof of identity. You may need a standard birth certificate for official purposes.
When all the steps in completing a certificate form template are done, your certificate will be mailed to you by post and will incur a postage and handling fee.
